Submit ManuscriptWhat and How to Submit:
The Essays, Comments, and Reviews sections of the Pepperdine Law Review publishes shorter academic commentaries (typically 3,000 to 6,000 words) in Pepperdine Law Review’s Annual Volume, which is an online-only journal.
The Annual Volume reviews and publishes pieces on a rolling basis. In addition, the Annual Volume offers a full Pepperdine Law Review citation, faster and more flexible turnaround time, publication on all major research fora (Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Hein), and full formatting that matches our print volume (as opposed to publication in a blog-style format).
Essays typically address novel issues of particular relevance, timeliness, and interest to the legal academic community. As such, essays are written in a manner that is appropriate for a peer audience. There is no typical nor required structure for essays. Additionally, essays that include more unique and novel concepts need only be lightly footnoted.
The Pepperdine Law Review also accepts traditional book reviews (typically 6,000 words or less), as well as other innovative dialogue pieces , including multiple contributors in the form of Multi-Author Discussions , Book Review Symposia, and other forms of academic correspondence.
Publication decisions are typically made within two weeks from the date a submission is received. Contributors may request an expedited review. Contributors are encouraged to cite sources in accordance with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed.). We ask that contributors submit their articles in Microsoft Word if possible. Authors are also asked to provide a brief cover letter, an abstract of their submission, and a resume/CV.
